2007- The first match of ODI World Cup 2007 was played between West Indies and Pakistan. But the first century in the tournament was scored in the match between Australia and Scotland. Then Australia’s Ricky Ponting scored 113 runs and it became the first century of the tournament. Then in the final match, Australia defeated Sri Lanka and won the title.
2011- After 2007, this happened once again in the World Cup held in India in 2011. The player from the country who scored the first century in the tournament also won the title. The first match of the 2011 tournament was between India and Bangladesh. Then Virender Sehwag and Virat Kohli scored a stunning century. It was the first century of the 2011 tournament. Later, India won the World Cup for the second time by defeating Sri Lanka in the final.
2015- In the third consecutive World Cup, it once again happened that the player of the country who scored the first century also won the World Cup. Australia’s Aaron Finch scored the first century against England in the 2015 tournament. Later, they defeated New Zealand in the final to win the title.
2019- This unique coincidence in the World Cup was also seen in 2019. The first century of this tournament was scored in the sixth match. Joe Root scored a century in the match between Pakistan and England. It became the first century of the tournament and England defeated New Zealand in the final to win their first title.
2023- Now New Zealand’s Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra scored centuries against England in the first match of the year. Now it will be interesting to see if the New Zealand team reaches the final and wins the title.
