Angelo Mathews Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan claimed an ICC World Cup 2023 series match on Monday after the Sri Lankan skipper was controversially admonished for “timeouts” earlier in the day.
Mathews sent Shakib back for 82 and then targeted his wrist in promotion at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Mathews became the first player in the 146-year history of international cricket to be timed out because he had taken more than the two-minute regulation to strike when he came out to bat.

The 36-year-old had trouble with his helmet and as soon as he crossed the boundary, Shakib appealed and the umpire ruled the bat off.
Meanwhile, Sri Lankan all-rounder Charith Asalanka felt that Mathews’ dismissal over time was ‘not good for the spirit of cricket’.
Asalanka had an exceptional performance as the batsman scored 108 in 105 balls stitching small yet impactful partnerships with Dhananjaya de Silva and Maheesh Theekshana.

The left bat `s form almost took Sri Lanka to score 300-plus but got dismissed in the end in the 49th over which was a big setback for Sri Lanka.
“It’s always a good feeling when you get a hundred and I’m feeling happy now. I love being in partnership with Dhananjaya because he’s a right hander and I’m a left hander and he always scores quickly. go to the fields, because we can hit the ball through the line. When I was batting, I was looking for 300 but unfortunately, I got out in the 49th over. But, I think we have enough,” Asalanka added.
Earlier, Sri Lanka were put into bat first and batsmen piled on runs like never before until they found themselves reeling at 135-4 in the 25th over when Samarawickrama gave away his wicket.
