Taylor Kinney takes time off from ‘Chicago Fire’ to ‘take care of a personal matter’
Taylor Kinney is stepping away from her hit NBC show ‘Chicago Fire’.
The 41-year-old actor, who has been on the show for more than a decade, is “taking time off to settle a personal matter,” a source close to the production told Fox News Digital.
Deadline reported that the cast and crew were notified of Kinney’s departure on Friday. The series is currently airing for its 11th season and it may be necessary to rewrite the script due to the actor’s departure.
A “Chicago Fire” representative declined to comment. Kinney’s representative did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Kinney played firefighter Lt. Chicago’s Kelly Severide since the series debuted in October 2012. The “Vampire Diaries” alum has also made cameo appearances in every other installment of Wolf’s “One Chicago” franchise. Entertainment, including “Chicago PD,” “Chicago Med,” and “Chicago Justice.”
While Kinney’s character was once known as a “ladies man,” he married fellow firefighter Lt. Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo). The series premiered on January 4 for season 11, but the show has been on hiatus until February 8.

Last week, Kinney talked about his first audition for “Chicago Fire” during an interview with NBC.
“I was often on the audition circuit, so I was decent,” he said. “I remember I never had fear. I was excited about it and then you kind of leave it to those in power,’
“Things went well, and 10 years later I’m still here listening to you on your TVs folding laundry,” the Pennsylvania native joked.
“Chicago Fire” airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
