Virender Sehwag on Suryakumar Yadav: Suryakumar Yadav scored a brilliant half-century to lead India to a 5-wicket win in the first ODI in Mohali on Friday. Surya’s batting was widely appreciated. Virender Sehwag praised India’s decision to pick Suryakumar Yadav in the World Cup 2023 squad. Suryakumar Yadav scored his third career ODI fifty in the first ODI of the three-match series against Australia in Mohali.
With this innings against Australia, Suryakumar also ended a 19-month ODI run drought. Surya fell victim to Shaun Abbott in an attempt to play a big hit, but by then he had taken India to the brink of victory.

Sanjay Manjrekar praised Surya for avoiding sweep shots
Another former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar praised Suryakumar for avoiding the temptation to play sweep shots. Manjrekar wrote, “Today’s match ticked another important box for India called SKY. Surya did not play a single sweep shot in the entire innings, which is an example of his determination to make a name for himself in 50-over cricket. A half-century against Australia will be a huge confidence booster for Team India and him.”

Australia set a target of 277 runs to win against India which Team India completed with 5 wickets and 8 balls to spare. The 31-year-old Suryakumar Yadav has so far scored 587 runs in 28 ODIs at an average of 25.52 and a strike rate of over 100, including 3 fifties. Earlier, Suryakumar was criticized for his poor performances in the ODI format. However, Surya has raised India’s hopes ahead of the World Cup by scoring a half-century in the first match of the series against Australia.
