India’s Sania Mirza retires from professional tennis after playing in the 2023 Dubai Tennis Championship in February. Mirza herself was due to retire in 2022, but an elbow injury in August put an early end to her season, after which she decided to give her another chance on the tour.

“Honestly, I like to do things on my own terms, so I don’t want to get kicked out by injury.” Sania Mirzawho withdrew US open 2022, said wtatennis in an interview. After making her senior debut in 2001, she reached unprecedented heights and became the country’s most successful player in both singles and doubles.

In 22 years, she won six Grand Slam titles: three in women’s doubles and three in mixed doubles. However, her last victory on the track was in 2021, when she won the Ostrava Open. “I really don’t have the mental capacity to push so much emotionally anymore,” Sania Mirza recently told Curly Tales Middle East in an interview. “Priorities change, and now my priority isn’t to push my body to the limit every day.”

Meanwhile, Mirza will play in women’s doubles next time with Anna Danilina from Kazakhstan Australian Open. The Indian last won the Australian Open in 2016 when she won the women’s doubles with Martina Hingis. However, his participation in mixed doubles has not yet been confirmed.

Mirza was ranked No. 1 in the world in doubles from April 2015 to January 2017. During that time, she won three Grand Slam singles titles in a row. In contrast, in singles, he secured his only WTA title in Hyderabad in 2005.
