Maharashtra Public Service Commission Chairman Kishoreraje Nimbalkar will retire on Wednesday. In his place, the process of selecting a new president was started. 1988 batch IPS officer and Maharashtra State Director General of Police Rajnish Seth had applied for the post. ST Corporation Managing Director Shekhar Channe and retired officer Pradeep Kumar had applied along with them. However, the head of the selection committee, Manoj Saunik, selected Rajnish Seth. This paved the way for Rajnish Seth to become the Chairman of Maharashtra Public Service Commission. Rashmi Shukla has been selected in his place.
Rashmi Shukla is also a 1988 batch IPS officer. She has become the Director General of Police of the state. The Mahavikas Aghadi government had started an inquiry into him in the case of alleged phone tapping during the 2019 assembly elections. The then Home Minister Dilip Valse Patil also informed in the Legislative Assembly that the phones of Eknath Khadse, Sanjay Raut, Nana Patole, Ashish Deshmukh and Bachchu Kadu were tapped. Meanwhile, Rashmi Shukla had joined the CRPF on deputation.
After the transfer of power in the state, the investigation against him in the case of phone tapping was closed. The Bombay High Court had dismissed the petition against Rashmi Shukla in the phone tapping case. After Eknath Shinde’s government arrived in the state, Rashmi Shukla also met Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in New Delhi.
