A Paris Saint-Germain supporter was beaten by hooded attackers before the French club’s Champions League match at AC Milan, Italian police said on Tuesday. The unnamed French man was injured “severely by two stab wounds in the leg” in Milan on Monday night and taken to the hospital, police said in a statement. The newspaper Corriere della Sera said that the man was 34 years old and that his life was not in danger. Witnesses told police that the clash took place between around 50 Milan fans and France fans in the Navigli area in the north of the Italian city.

Video images on social media shared by Italian news sites show a group of men on the side of the canal known for its cafes, bars and nightlife.

As the flames advance, they suddenly turn and run from another group of men, some wearing hoods and carrying what look like batteries.

The attack comes less than two months after a Newcastle United supporter was stabbed in the same area of the city ahead of a Champions League game against Milan.

Seven-time European champions Milan host PSG on Tuesday, who currently lead Group F with two points and the favorites will have hammered the Italians 3-0 at the Parc des Princes two weeks ago.

Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who left Milan for PSG as a free agent in the summer of 2021, will add further fuel to an already heated atmosphere at the San Siro.

Tuesday’s game could have a major impact on both sides’ hopes of reaching the final stages of the Champions League as only four points separate the four teams in the group.

Milan are bottom of the group on two points after failing to score a single goal in their opening three games.
