After handing over the World Cup trophy to Australian skipper Pat Cummins, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the battered Indian cricket team in the dressing room. PM Modi consoled and encouraged Rohit Sharma and his men who went down to the Aussies in the World Cup final in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

In a video released from the dressing room, PM Modi reminded the Indian cricket team that they had done well and reached the final after 10 straight wins. He also told the team that they had given their all and there is no reason to be disappointed. He also said that winning or losing was not in your hand, what mattered was the effort put in by the team.

The Prime Minister joked with Ahmedabad native Jasprit Bumrah about whether he knew Gujaratis as he shook hands with the likes of coach Rahul Dravid, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Shreyas Iyer, Kuldeep Yadav and KL Rahul.

Mohammad Shami was one of those who had a chat with PM Modi. Shami shared a picture of him resting his head on the Prime Minister’s shoulder. “Unfortunately yesterday was not our day. I would like to thank all the Indians for supporting our team and me throughout the tournament. Thanks to PM Narendra Modi for coming specially to the dressing room and lifting our spirits. We will bounce back,” read the post shared by Shami on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

Jadeja also posted a photo of PM Modi having a word with the Men in Blue after the World Cup final. Shami and Indian opening batsman Shubman Gill can be seen in the background of the picture shared by Jadeja.

“We had a great tournament but we finished short yesterday. We are all heartbroken but the support of our family is keeping us going. PM Narendra Modi’s visit to the dressing room yesterday was special and very inspiring,” Jadeja wrote on X.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in the stands during the second innings of the World Cup final on Sunday. Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were also present to witness the summit clash.

Batting first the hosts made India a total of 240 runs. During their chase, Australia lost four wickets and scored the winning runs with 42 balls to spare. Aussie batsman Travis Head was adjudged Player of the Match for his sublime century. The six-wicket win against India helped Australia become champions for the sixth time ever.
