The first Mega Millions game of the new year is one of the biggest, with an estimated jackpot of $785 million ahead of Tuesday night’s drawing.

This is the fourth largest jackpot in the lottery game’s more than 20-year history and the sixth largest jackpot in US history.

The estimated $785 million price can be paid in annual checks for 29 years or in a lump sum for an estimated $395 million.

The Mega Millions jackpot has continued to climb over the past two and a half months, with 22 draws since the jackpot was last won on October 14.

“On only three previous occasions, the Mega Millions jackpot has been over $700 million, and on all three occasions those reels have been over $1 billion,” said Mega Millions.

The last time was in July, when an anonymous ticket owner in Des Plaines, Illinois won a historic prize of $1.34 billion.

The Mega Millions jackpot is the largest since a single ticket in California won a record $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot on November 8. A winner has yet to be announced.

The odds of winning the Mega Millions top prize are 1 in 302.6 million.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states plus Washington, DC and the US Virgin Islands.

The next draw is Tuesday at 11pm ET.
