Asian Games 2023: India has made a brilliant start in the Asian Games. Star boxer Nikhat Zareen got off to a flying start with a silver medal at the Asian Games on Sunday (September 24) after defeating Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Tam. Nikhat defeated Nguyen Thi Tam 5-0.
Nikhat Zareen reached the pre-quarter finals
Nikhat Zarin defeated Nguyen Thi Tam in the quarterfinals of the women’s 50kg category. Jarin will face South Korea’s Chorong Bak in the pre-quarters. 27-year-old Nikhat Zareen took the lead from the first round. She defeated her opponent in the third round with brilliant boxing and advanced to the next round. Due to Nikhat’s superior boxing, Nguyen was forced to ‘eight count’ twice within 30 seconds of the first round.

After the win, Nikhat said, “I didn’t expect a one-sided win in this match, but that was my plan. My plan was to win the first two rounds by unanimous decision so that I could relax in the third round.”
Talking about securing a place in the Olympic quota, Nikhat said, ‘I am focusing on qualifying for Paris first.’ Nikhat further said, “I am focusing on qualification first. After that I will think about the final and the gold medal.”
