Former All Black coach Ian Foster and his assistant Joe Schmidt have reportedly joined the coach of French club Montpellier.
French media outlet free midi, reporting that Foster, whose four-year tenure as head coach of the All Blacks expired at the end of the World Cup, and Schmidt, who previously coached Ireland, could be called upon to rescue the Top 14 clubs .
Montpellier have won just one of their seven games this season and sacked head coach and former England international Richard Cockerill at the weekend.
Cockerill’s sacking followed the appointment of former France coach Bernard Laporte as Montpellier’s director of rugby last week.
Laporte brought in Patrice Collazo from Brive but on an 18 month contract free midi, reporting that both Foster and Schmidt are being considered as potential long-term head coaching candidates, with Schmidt reportedly being the preference.
