The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) on Thursday claimed that the ITF Davis Cup Committee has ruled that India must play their tie in Pakistan as per the original schedule. The PTF claimed that the ITF ruled in Pakistan’s favor after India said they were concerned about the security of sending their team to the country. “The ITF has said that Pakistan will retain its hosting rights and rejected the security concerns raised by India,” said a senior PTF official.

The Davis Cup Committee accepted the PTF’s presentation against the All India Tennis Association’s (AITA) refusal to send its Davis Cup team to Pakistan for the Group I Playoff match in Islamabad in the first week of February.

“The ITF has made it clear that if AITA fails to send its team to Islamabad, the tie would be awarded to Pakistan as there is no reason for India to worry about playing in Pakistan,” said the officer.

The ITF also said the host was responsible for providing security to the visiting team and had recently successfully hosted other teams without incident, the official said.

The Indian federation had recently told the Davis Cup Committee that they cannot send their team to Islamabad for the tie and requested that it be organized at a neutral venue.

PTF President Salim Saifullah Khan said he had taken up the situation with the ITF and a presentation had been made to the Davis Cup committee recently.

India also did not travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup cricket matches in August and September and as a result most of the matches were played in Sri Lanka, with only four matches in Pakistan.

In 2019, the Indian tennis team refused to play in Pakistan and the Davis trophy was moved to Kazakhstan on the advice of the ITF.
