Rohit Sharma-led Team India suffered a huge blow on Saturday when all-star Hardik Pandya was ruled out of the Cricket World Cup 2023. Since Hardik was the vice-captain of the team as well as being All in all a great player, this just adds. to India’s problems. While India are yet to lose a match in the tournament, Hardik’s absence will definitely be a factor in the tournament as the player brings great balance to the team’s XI.
Hardik suffered an ankle injury while trying to stop his own bowling against Bangladesh on 19 October.
KL Rahul has now been appointed as the vice-captain of the Indian cricket team. India head coach Rahul Dravid confirmed Rahul’s appointment in a pre-match press conference, saying, “Yes, so he is the vice-captain because Hardik is injured. So, he is the vice-captain.”
Earlier, Hardik took to social media to say that he will continue to cheer for the Indian cricket team, even though he will not be a part of the team at the mega event.
“It’s hard to understand that I will miss out on the rest of the World Cup. I will be with the team, in spirit, cheering them on every ball of every game. Thank you for all the wishes, the love, and the incredible support. This team is special and I’m sure everyone will be proud. Love, always, HP,” Hardik Pandya wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Talking about India, they are on top of the Cricket World Cup 2023 points table after winning 7 out of 7 matches in the tournament. They have already confirmed a semi-final place.
Before playing their match, India will face South Africa on November 5, and the Netherlands on November 12.
