Novak Djokovic will be looking to put things right as a matter of priority after losing to Jannik Sinner in the ATP Finals on Tuesday night. The Serbian will take on Hubert Hurkacz in his group stage final later today as he aims to book his place in the semi-finals in Turin.
Djokovic’s win at the hands of Sinner ended his impressive 19-match winning streak, with the Italian hopeful on the brink of a three-set thriller to claim a huge victory and delight the home crowd. It was a disappointing defeat for Djokovic but he was in high spirits after the match, saying he was proud of his overall performance despite coming up short.
“It’s normal to lose some of the games like this, but I have to be happy with the fight, with the fighting spirit,” he said.
“I managed to come back from the lay-down, break down in the third set, playing in really challenging and difficult conditions on the court today. I’m proud of the fight I put in. It wasn’t enough. for the win.”
Meanwhile, Sinner will have a chance to extend his 100 percent record at this year’s ATP Finals when he faces Holger Rune this evening. He failed to beat the Dane in either of their previous meetings but will be hoping to build on the momentum he won to get the job done at the third time of asking.
