Hong Chou, 1: Indian athletes put up a strong performance at the Asian Games on Sunday, bagging three gold medals and a total of 15 medals. Along with this, India retained the fourth position in the medal table with 53 medals. Maharashtra’s Avinash Sable capped the day by winning the gold medal in the 3000m steeplechase with a competition record. Tajinderpal Singh Toor bagged the gold medal in shot put. This was his second gold medal in a row. India bagged its third gold medal of the day in the men’s trap event in shooting.
Avinash Sable finished the race in 8 minutes 19.50 seconds to give India its first gold medal in athletics. Now he will participate in the 5000 meter race. Tajinderpal Singh Toor claimed the gold medal for the second consecutive time with a throw of 20.36m. Indian shooters Kainan Chenay, Zorawar Singh and Prithviraj Thondaiman scored 361 points in the men’s trap category to win the gold medal along with the Asian Games record.
Seven silver and five bronze
Indian athletes literally looted the medals on Sunday. He was successful in winning three gold medals, seven silver and five bronze medals. Indians maintained their dominance in athletics winning four silver medals. He also won one silver medal each in golf, shooting and badminton. Indian athletes, who won three bronze medals in athletics, won one bronze each in shooting and boxing. Aditi Ashok’s silver medal in golf was historic.
