Arsenal sign Jakub Kiwior from Spezia on ‘long-term’ deal
Arsenal have confirmed the signing of central defender Jakub Kiwior from Spezia.
Athletics reported that the north London club is working on a deal to sign the 22-year-old for a fee of more than €20 million (£17.5 million).
The transfer has now been completed and the Polish international has signed what the club described as a ‘long-term’ one-year contract.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said: “It’s great to have Jakub with us. He’s a versatile young defender who has shown huge potential and quality at Spezia in Serie A, as well as internationally with Poland.
“Jakub is a player who will give us strength and quality in our defensive unit. We welcome Jakub and his family to Arsenal and look forward to working with him.
Sporting Director Edu said: “We are delighted to have completed the signing of Jakub Kiwior. He is a young talent that we have been following for a while. We all now look forward to working with Jakub and seeing his continued development with us. We welcome Jakub to Arsenal.
Kiwior will become the club’s second signing in the January transfer window after Arsenal signed Leandro Trossard from Brighton and will cover Gabriel from Arsenal.
The left-footed centre-back, who has also played in defensive midfield, joined from Zilina in 2021 and has appeared in 17 of the club’s 18 Serie A games this season.
He also earned nine caps for Poland and was part of their World Cup squad.
