Suara.com – After the case of acute kidney failure in children, many people were worried about giving paracetamol or drugs to children that reduce fever. As a result, the Indonesian Association of Pharmaceutical Companies (GPFI) gave advice on how to choose a safe syrup for children.

As is known, due to the contamination of ethylene glycol (EG) and diethylene glycol (DEG), the Food and Drug Surveillance Agency or BPOM has just released 340 syrup medicines that are safe for the consumption, but many people are still confused and doubtful.

So according to the Head of the Indonesian Pharmaceutical Industry GP, Roy Lembong, the best solution for parents whose children have a fever is to buy medicines in pharmacies and official drug stores, which sell and they only dispense safe syrup medications.

“Go to pharmacies and official drug stores, there are those that have been released by BPOM,” Roy explained at a discussion event in South Jakarta, Tuesday (20/12/2022).

According to Roy, in a situation that is completely confused in the society about giving syrup medicine to children, only licensed pharmacies and drugstores can be sure of their safety in selling medicines suitable for children.

“So don’t be afraid to seek treatment, so come to the pharmacy and the official drug store is the best,” said Roy.

It should be noted, there are currently 2,400 items of syrup medicines to be tested in Indonesia for solvents suspected to be contaminated with excessive DEG and EG, which cause acute kidney failure.

Out of the thousands of drugs, only 340 drugs have been retested and declared safe by the BPOM and fit for consumption.

Please note, as of 13 December 2022, there have been 324 cases of acute kidney failure, with 200 children dying.
