IKEA INTRODUCES DELIVERY BY RIVER SENA IN PARIS
In an effort to further reduce CO2 emissions in its operations and at the same time shorten delivery times in the French capital, IKEA has partnered with the company Box2Home to launch a new delivery method, namely t -transport by boat on the River Seine, as well as electric vehicles for delivery to customers’ home addresses.
The Île-de-France region supported the project logistically and financially, as part of a wider program to encourage the use of rivers in France. In addition to the fact that the delivery from the Seine River avoids traffic jams on the approach to the French capital and thus ensures a shorter delivery time, the new solution allows the entire range of IKEA is delivered by river, which emits up to five times less CO2 emissions compared to truck deliveries. This results in a significant reduction in traffic, since so far the trucks have traveled around 300,000 kilometers per year. Final deliveries are made more exclusively by electric vehicles to customers’ home addresses.
“We are proud to be pioneers in this field and to introduce Seine River deliveries in Paris. With this innovation, we are taking an important step to enable the growth of home delivery while significantly reducing the impact on the environment,” she said.
