In the current ICC ODI World Cup 2023, New Zealand is leading the tournament after playing eight matches. Ahead of the upcoming match against Bangladesh, an update has emerged regarding a key player who was ruled out due to injury.
New Zealand cricket team captain Kane Williamson is ready to return to the playing eleven in the upcoming match. This announcement was made by the team’s head coach Gary Stead. Kane Williamson was out of action at the start of IPL 2023 after suffering an injury and was not a part of the playing eleven in the first two matches of the World Cup. However, the latest update suggests that he is set to return for the match against Bangladesh in Chennai.
Gary Stead expressed optimism about Kane Williamson’s return and said that the captain is speeding up the recovery process. He also confirmed that veteran fast bowler Tim Southee will be available for selection in the same match. Tim Southee suffered a right thumb injury last month, due to which he required surgery. According to Stead, Saudi’s thumb has healed and he is ready to return.
Kane Williamson suffered a leg injury on March 31 while playing for Gujarat Titans against Chennai Super Kings in the opening match of IPL 2023. The injury occurred when he attempted to block a four, which later required surgery. Kane Williamson is an important figure in New Zealand cricket, having appeared in 94 Test matches, 161 ODIs and 87 T20 matches. He has an impressive record of 8124 runs in Tests, 6554 runs in ODIs and 2464 runs in T20s, which highlights his consistent performance across all formats. His return is expected to strengthen the New Zealand team for the remaining matches of the World Cup.
