However, the actor left everyone heartbroken when he left for his heavenly abode on November 6, 1985, after suffering a heart attack.

Not many know, Sanjeev Kumar had once approached Rajesh Khanna when rumors of his relationship with actress Anju Mahendroo went viral and reached Khanna. The story goes back to the time when actor Namak Haraam was in a happy space with Anju. After being in a live-in relationship for seven long years, they called it quits in 1972. It is said that they parted ways after Anju refused to settle down with him.

However, years later, rumors about Anuj’s affair with Sanjeev Kumar started doing the rounds of tabloids, which did not sit well with Rajesh Khanna. Later in an interview, Anuj revealed that Khanna misunderstood her relationship with Sanjeev, who was her mother’s brother, after they broke up. After some time, when the two had a scene together in a movie, the legendary actor took the opportunity to take revenge. In the scene, Khanna had to slap Sanjeev, and after getting worried, he gave him a hard head.

Earlier in an interview with Filmfare, Anju Mahendroo said, “I was never attracted by Hari. For me, he was my mother’s brother. In fact, there was one actress who told everyone that I was having an affair with Hari. My ex-boyfriend believed I was having an affair with Hari and long after we broke up he nurtured the misunderstanding. Years later, when he and Hari worked together in a film and he had to slap Hari in a scene, he gave a very hard one. He and Hari were not that good.”

Anju Mahendroo in the same interview also revealed that after her breakup with Rajesh Khanna, Sanjeev Kumar, along with Basuda Bhattacharya, came to her home to meet her where she told them, “This is not a condolence meeting.”
