Tom Hiddleston is one of the most enduring actors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has portrayed the cunning-turned-hero Loki since the release of Thor in 2011. The actor may have finally bagged the role after nearly two decades, but it seems he has bigger things in store. The English actor is also being considered to play James Bond in a Bond film that could be directed by the famous filmmaker Christopher Nolan. With Daniel Craig sidelined from the Bond franchise, Hiddleston has emerged as the main contender for the iconic role.
Ian Fleming’s fictional character, James Bond, created in 1952, has been a worldwide sensation for over seven years now. For the uninitiated, Bond is a quick-witted eagle-eyed spy who has his own ways of saving the world. Sean Connery first played the character in Dr. No, which was released in 1962. The most recent actor to take on the role was Daniel Craig, who said goodbye to his portrayal of 007 in No Time to Die.
If rumors are to be believed, the makers have Tom Hiddleston in mind to bring forward Bond’s legacy; however, official confirmation is awaited. Recently, on The Happy Sad Confused podcast, Hiddleston revealed that he would be afraid to replace Daniel Craig with James Bond.
When Josh Horowitz asked Tom Hiddleston, “What would scare you at this point, a Broadway musical or the call to James Bond?” The actor replied, “Both are terrible. That’s like scary number one, scary number two.” When the podcaster said, “The only thing scarier is probably a James Bond musical,” the 42-year-old added, “Absolutely.”
Recently, it was revealed that Garth Ennis is writing a new Bond comic, and Christopher Nolan has expressed his interest in directing the film. Following the success of the Oppenheimer biopic, the director has reportedly been in talks to direct at least two films in the 007 franchise. The reports also suggested that the ‘Inception’ director would also be on board as an executive producer for the projects.
Earlier, addressing the speculation of playing James Bond, The Night Manager actor told Empire magazine, “What can I say that you don’t already know? It’s interesting in itself that I suddenly became very aware of what I’m talking about, isn’t it?” Aside from Tom Hiddleston, Bridgerton alumni names Rege Jean Page and Game of Thrones’ Richard Madden were considered to play James Bond.
