The Marvels – The 2 MCU movies and 3 Disney+ Marvel miniseries to watch before | Films | Entertainment

The 33rd MCU film arrives in cinemas tomorrow but are you ready to add to the background of the characters in previous films and Disney + mini-series?

The Marvels is basically Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel 2 and stars Teyonah Parris’ Photon, Ms. Marvel’s Iman Vellani and Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury, who all had their own adventures since Avengers Endgame.

The new Marvel movie sees the three female superheroes switch places when they use their powers and it looks like another universe is breaking into the MCU as well.

Captain Marvel’s story began with Nick Fury calling her out in the post-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War, before fading to dust.

After that there are the two MCU movies and three Disney+ miniseries to watch before watching The Marvels.

Captain Marvel (2019)

Between the Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame, this standalone MCU prequel movie hit theaters to give fans the origin story of Carol Danvers.

Set in 1995, we see how Captain Marvel got her incredible powers (only Scarlet Witch in the MCU was surpassed in her strength), while trying to stop a war between the Skrulls and the Kree. We also see her teaming up with a young Nick Fury and find out how he lost his eye. Meanwhile, Carol’s pilot friend Maria Rambeau and her young daughter Maria play a significant role.

During the end credits scene, Captain Marvel answers the pager she left with Nick Fury on Earth in the 1990s, arriving at Avengers HQ after the events of 2018’s Infinity War.

Avengers Endgame (2019)

In 2018, the Avengers and Captain Marvel find Thanos on his planet Garden and find out that he “used the stones to destroy the stones” before being blasted by Thor. Five years later in 2023, the surviving Avengers who weren’t dusted in the Snap continue to police the galaxy and Carol is shown with a shorter haircut.

She only arrives at the end of the film to take on the 2014 version of Thanos in Battle for Earth, briefly overpowering him before he uses the Power Stone to knock her out. Captain Marvel later attends Tony Stark’s funeral with Nick Fury, before returning to the stars.

WandaVision (2021)

The first ever Disney+ MCU introduced the grown-up Captain Monica Rambeau, an agent of SWORD mentioned in Thanos’ Leap. She returned to her life after the Hulk jump in late 2023 to find that her mother Maria had died of cancer.

During the events of WandaVision, Monica enters the world of the Westview sitcom Scarlet Witch Hex and gains superpowers to become a Photon. At the end of the miniseries, she is contacted by a Skrull operative who says Fury wants to meet her.

Ms. Marvel (2022)

According to the newly published book The Marvel Cinematic Universe: Official Timeline, this Disney + series takes place in late 2025. The show follows the super captain Marvel, Kamala Khan, revealing how she got her powers as Ms. Marvel and the bangle magic she uses in The. Marvels. The show ends with Kamala switching places with Carol, who crashes into her bedroom: a scene that takes place in The Marvels. Also, there was a huge X-Men Easter Egg.

Secret Invasion (2022)

This Disney+ show is also probably set in late 2025 and serves as a sort of Captain Marvel 1.5 without Carol herself. The show follows Ben Mendelsohn’s Fury and Talos in a spy thriller involving the Skulls. The miniseries ends with Fury returning to the SWORD space station he was shown in during The Marvels trailers.

The Marvels will hit UK cinemas on Friday.
