The Toronto Blue Jays sign outfielder Wynton Bernard to a minor league contract. He will receive an invitation to the big league spring training session.

Bernard, 32, has been one of the biggest breakout stories of the 2022 MLB season. He broke into the big leagues for the first time last year after spending a fortune ten seasons in the minor leagues from the great promotion[ajrmaqala’l-promozzjonikbira

Last season, he played the first 12 games of his major league career as a member of the Colorado Rockies. In 42 plate appearances, Bernanrd recorded 12 hits (11 singles and a double), drove in three of them and stole three bases along the way.

Since being drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 35th round of the 2012 MLB Draft, Bernard has bounced back and forth between the Padres, Tigers, Giants, Cubs and Rockies, even spending some time in the Mexican leagues and Australians on the sidelines.

Someone like Bernard is a real grinder and there is a reason why clubs have continued to keep him despite the lack of major league promotion over the years. He plays really strong defense in the outfield at all three spots on the grass and is a total speed demon on the base lanes.

In the past year alone, Bernard has shown how valuable he can be. In 108 games for Triple-A Albuquerque in the Rockies organization, he hit 31 doubles, 21 home runs with 92 RBI, stole 30 bases, and posted an impressive .333 batting average with a wRC+ of 138.

As far as how he’s going to get involved in the organization, this feels like a pure deep draft, at least for now. He will not join the Blue Jays’ 40-man roster without another player being DFA as he is currently at full capacity. Instead, he will likely report to Triple-A Buffalo, where he should remain consistent at-bats as he looks to make another run in the big leagues at some point.
