Yesterday saw the release of the last Beatles song Now and Then, reviewed by Express.co.uk, thanks to the wonders of modern technology.
John Lennon’s voice was mixed before his death in 1980 with George Harrison’s guitar in 1995 and completed by Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Ringo Starr in 2023 to complete their last track together as the Fab Four.
If that wasn’t enough, Peter Jackson (who directed The Beatles: Get Back) released the official music video for Now and Then this afternoon, which is full of surprises and well worth the wait.
Recording sessions from the mid-1990s when the project was first abandoned are featured, as well as never-before-seen footage of The Beatles.
But no fans were prepared for what happened next.
Sir Paul and Sir Ringo are captured singing Now and Then together before younger versions of Lennon and the late Harrison reunite to perform together as The Beatles one last time.
It’s touching and emotional at the same time, with a young McCartney and Starr later joining in the fun.
It all ends with a bow from their Ed Sullivan Show debut before the Fab Four walk away for the last time; Say goodbye to the biggest selling band in history.
Reflecting on his Now and Then music video, Jackson said: “[I found] a collection of unseen output in the vault, in which the Beatles are relaxed, funny and quite honest. We added humor to some footage made in 2023. The result is quite nutty and the video provided a much needed balance between the sad and the funny.
“I realized that we needed the imagination of each audience to create their own personal farewell moment for The Beatles”.
The Oscar-winning Lord of the Rings director concluded by saying he was “really proud” of the finished piece, which was his first ever music video “and I’ll cherish that for years to come”.
