New Zealand, which defeated defending champions England in the opening match of the World Cup, continued its winning streak and defeated Netherlands by 99 runs. This is New Zealand’s second win over Netherlands in the World Cup. Earlier both the teams had faced each other in 1996, where New Zealand won by 119 runs. The hero of New Zealand’s victory was Mitchell Santner. First he played an inning of 36 runs in 17 balls and then took five wickets for 59 runs. This is the first five wickets of any bowler in this World Cup.
In the points table, New Zealand now has four points from two matches and remains at the first position. On the other hand, this is the second consecutive defeat for Netherlands. Pakistan had defeated them in the last match in Hyderabad itself.
