Nepal China News: Nepal PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal Meet Xi Jinping Balancing China & India Amid BRI Row

Kathmandu: Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda is now going to visit China after America. Prachanda will be in China from 23 September to 30 September. Prachanda’s visit to China is taking place at a time when relations between Nepal and India are continuously strengthening. According to Nepali experts, today’s India is continuously progressing and has become the fifth largest economy in the world. Not only this, America is now continuously strengthening relations with India to corner China. India has made China realize its growing power by launching Chandrayaan-3. In her article written in Kathmandu Post, Pragya Ghimire says that amid all this, China’s growth rate is now falling and the unemployment rate has also reached 21 percent. Not only this, China’s BRI is also losing its shine in the world. Amidst this change coming between India and China, the Prime Minister of Nepal is going on a visit to China. Earlier, Prachanda had gone on a visit to India. In a way, these visits of Nepal Prime Minister are considered to be an attempt to create balance.

China changed its stance, tension increased with Nepal

Pragya said that after India’s blockade in 2015, Nepal started strengthening relations with China. Nepal also signed China’s BRI agreement. In the year 2019, the President of China also visited Nepal after India. Even after all this, the agreements that were signed between Nepal and China have not been implemented. He said that the relationship between China and Nepal is neither getting better nor worse. The reason for this is political hesitation. This kind of situation first started during the era of KP Oli government when he was improving relations with India to save his government.

After this, when the coalition government of Sher Bahadur Deuba and Prachanda was formed, it also did not give much importance to relations with China. Nepalese PM Deuba feared that this would put Nepal’s trusting relationship with India in jeopardy. After this, China changed its stand and started trying to unite the left parties of Nepal. This spoiled China’s relations with Nepali Congress. Not only this, China unilaterally announced that Pokhara Airport is part of BRI. Recently, China’s ambassador has also worsened the atmosphere by giving very controversial statements against India and Nepal. Now the eyes of the world will be on Prachanda’s journey.
