Miriam Margolyes finds comfort in lodgers as partner Heather lives in Amsterdam | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Miriam Margolyes described how “her lodgers are sweeter” for her because her partner Heather Sutherland, who lives in Amsterdam, was not there.

The 80-year-old star and her partner Heather have been together for more than five decades, but still choose to live apart.

The Harry Potter actor spoke to Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett about their living situation and long-distance relationship on a hit podcast A dish from Waitrose.

“I’m lucky,” Miriam revealed during her chat with the podcast hosts. “I have an intergenerational situation at home. I have two lodgers.

“George was the second to come,” she explained. “Emily came first, and then George. It is a baker to die for. My favorite cake is coffee and walnut and it’s brilliant with that.”

When Nick asked how she met her lodgers, Miriam confirmed: “Emily’s something to do with Doctor Who, I don’t know what.

“But I go to recording studios, and I have a great engineer who I love, called Rowan. He was their friend.

“They make my life sweeter,” she admitted. “Because my partner lives in Amsterdam, so I don’t see her much, so I’d probably get quite lonely if I was alone all the time.”

When asked how long she has lived in Amsterdam, Miriam revealed that her partner had been there for around 50 years.

Sensing Nick’s surprise, she reiterated: “Fifty-four years. And I really love her and I want to be with her and, now we’re getting older, we have to try to find a way to be together.”

She then declared that she “tries” to spend a lot of time with Heather, with whom she also shares a house in Italy.

During series four, Miriam also revealed that she turned down offers to appear on Strictly Come Dancing and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here”.

She is currently promoting her book, Oh Miriam!, which brings readers “stories from an extraordinary life”.

Series 4 of Dish from Waitrose, hosted by Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett, is now available on all podcast providers.
