The other matter discussed in the meeting was the adoption of the schedule of this year’s sessions. On March 23, the group is scheduled to meet to discuss the adoption of the 2023 budget and bylaws, which set the rates for property taxes to be imposed in the areas all of the SCRD to pay for this approved spending plan. According to the SCRD website, SCHRD funds are typically used to provide 40 percent of the annual capital funding costs for the region’s hospital facilities. The province and other funding partners, including groups such as the Sechelt Hospital Foundation, provide the rest of the funds needed for these purposes. (Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is responsible for health care in the region.)

McMahon asked about the timeline for a review of SCRD’s memorandum of understanding with VCH, which outlines the process followed by the parties to agree on voluntary capital cost sharing requests. Tina Perreault, SCRD’s Chief Financial Officer, responded that VCH has scheduled a meeting with the SCRD Board in the coming months to discuss these and other issues.

SCHRD meetings are also scheduled for April, July and October.
