Protest in Manipur: The effects of the violence that started five months ago in Manipur are still visible. Internet and schools have been closed. In view of the tension, curfew has been imposed in Imphal East and Imphal West. The latest violence in the state started when photographs of bodies of two youths missing since July started going viral on social media on Monday (September 25). The flames of protest first ignited in Imphal. Violent clashes broke out between police and protesters on the streets of Singjei. Vehicles were set on fire. Police fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. The protests continued on Wednesday (27 September). During this, many protesters and security forces personnel were injured.
Regarding the injuries to the protesters, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said, “If the security forces have used bullets or any lethal weapon, the government will not tolerate it and disciplinary action will be taken against them.” In case of serious injuries, investigation will be conducted and they will be brought to justice.” He said that they received information that the miscreants threw objects made of iron at the security forces due to which several policemen were also injured.
Manipur Police statement
“A mob tried to attack a leader’s house,” Manipur Police posted on social media platform X around 9.30 pm. To control it, the security forces released tear gas shells and dispersed the crowd. The uncontrollable mob targeted a police gypsy and burnt it.
Police said, “A policeman was also beaten up and his weapon was snatched away.” Manipur Police condemns such actions and will take strict action to deal with such miscreants. A combing operation is being conducted to recover weapons and arrest the miscreants.
Amit Shah spoke to CM Biren Singh on phone
Meanwhile, N Biren Singh government of Manipur also appealed to the people to maintain peace and handed over the case to CBI. Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said on Wednesday (September 27) that a team of agency officials led by Special Director of Central Investigation Agency CBI, Ajay Bhatnagar, has arrived. This team has started investigating the murder case of two missing youths.
He said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured him that those who kidnapped and murdered the two youths would be arrested and punished. According to news agency PTI, Amit Shah also spoke to Chief Minister N Biren Singh on phone.
AFSPA law extended
Seeing the worsening situation, it has been decided to keep AFSPA in force in the hilly areas of Manipur. Whereas 19 police station areas have been kept separate from AFSPA. These include Imphal, Lenphle, City, Singjmei, Sekmai, Lamsang, Patsoi, Wangoi, Porompat, Hangeng, Lamlai, Irilbung, Lemkhong, Thobul, Bishnupur, Nambol, Moirong, Kakching and Jiribam.
“After analyzing the present law and order situation in Manipur, the state government is of the opinion that it is not desirable to conduct a detailed assessment at the ground level as the security agencies are busy in maintaining law and order,” an official notification said. “
“Therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the AFSPA, the Governor of Manipur hereby declares the entire State of Manipur, except the areas falling within 19 police station areas, as ‘Disturbed Area’ for a period of six months from October 1,” the notification said. ‘Declared.’
School and internet closed
Internet has been banned in Manipur till 7.45 pm on October 1. The internet ban was imposed in the state following the violence that broke out on May 3 and was lifted recently after more than four months. In view of the law and order situation, the state government has declared public holiday in all schools on 27th and 29th September. There is a public holiday in the state on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad on 28th September.

Congress has targeted BJP regarding the latest violence. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that the state’s incompetent Chief Minister N Biren Singh should be dismissed. He posted on ‘X’, “People of Manipur are suffering for 147 days, but Prime Minister Modi does not have time to visit the state. The horrific pictures of students being targeted in this violence have once again shocked the entire country. It is now clear that violence against women and children was weaponized in this conflict.

Amidst the criticism regarding Manipur violence, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has said that adequate law and order is in place in Manipur and the state and central governments are trying to find a way so that the situation gets back on track. Responding to a question on the situation in Manipur at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York on Tuesday, he said, “I think the Manipur problem is also affecting the migrants who have come here who are destabilized by it.”
175 people have lost their lives in the violence that started on May 3 in Manipur. More than 65 thousand people have left their homes.
