Indians will reach abroad by bus, 70 percent work of this 1400 km highway completed

This is because Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that about 70 percent of the construction work on the ambitious India-Myanmar-Thailand trilateral highway has been completed. However, at present no deadline has been given regarding when it will start. Actually, India, Thailand and Myanmar are working on about 1,400 kilometer long highway which will connect these countries with South East Asia through land. This initiative will boost business, trade, health, education and tourism relations between the three countries.

In response to news agency PTI’s question regarding the progress of this project, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said, “About 70 percent work of the project has been completed.” In the year 2002, the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had proposed to connect Thailand and Myanmar through this road. Let us tell you the specialty and route of this highway.

Where will this highway start

This highway in the country will connect Moreh in Manipur to Mae Sot in Thailand via Myanmar. After the construction of this highway, passengers will not need to take flights to go from India to Myanmar and Thailand. Thailand can be reached directly from India by car or bike. The construction work of this highway has been completed to a large extent in India and Thailand, but a lot of work remains in Myanmar.

In the conference of BIMSTEC countries in Kolkata, representatives of Myanmar and Thailand had claimed that the work of this trilateral road project will be completed by 2027. At the same time, the aim of the Government of India regarding this strategic highway project was to start it by December 2019, but it has been delayed.

Atal ji had proposed

In the year 2002, former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee had proposed this ambitious project to promote trade between India and ASEAN countries. At that time Vajpayee had said that this highway could be extended beyond Thailand to Cambodia via Vietnam and then to Laos.

Here is the route

This highway being built between India, Thailand and Myanmar is also called Kolkata-Bangkok Highway. The largest part of it is in India, while the least part is in Thailand. This highway starts from Kolkata and goes to Siliguri in the north and will further reach Assam via Cooch Behar from West Bengal via Shrirampur border. Then from Dimapur it will enter Myanmar through Nagaland and a place called Moreh near Imphal in Manipur. At the same time, it will reach Thailand via Mae Sot via some cities of Myanmar.
