BRO DG. According to General Rajiv Chaudhary, in 2008 the Defense Minister had said in the Parliament that if we build roads on the border, then China can use our own roads against us.

India has prepared 295 road projects on the China border in three years. These include bridges, tunnels and airfields. Border Roads Organization (BRO) Director General Lieutenant General Rajeev Chaudhary gave this information on September 24.

According to BRO chief Lieutenant General Chaudhary, in the last few years, India has spent about Rs 8 thousand crores on 300 projects prepared on the China border. 60 more projects will be ready in the next four months. The work is going on fast. We will overtake China in 3-4 years. Choudhary had come to see the construction work on the China border.

Government increased the budget by 100% in two years- BRO Chief
BRO Chief Lieutenant. General Choudhary said that the Government of India is very helpful in terms of finance and new technology for our projects. In the last 2 years the government has increased our budget by 100%.

BRO has written on the side of one of its projects – We can build a road anywhere. The sky is our limit.

The earlier government was worried about construction on the China border.
DG BRO said that earlier governments were in dilemma about building roads on the China border i.e. the Line of Actual Control (LAC). In 2008, Defense Minister AK Antony had said in Parliament that if we build roads on the border, China can use our own roads against us.

‘Today’s government’s thinking is different. Our projects are being promoted. Earlier two tunnels were built in 60 years, now we built 4 tunnels in 3 years. The advantage of tunnels is that you can go to hilly areas in any season. The road is not closed.

All the roads we built are at a higher altitude than the base camp of Everest – Choudhary
BRO DG also said that we have built roads in Tawang and high altitude border areas in Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh. Zojila (Kargil) pass used to remain closed due to snowfall from October for the next 6 months. This situation has reduced in the last 3 years. Call it the success of BRO that we have been able to build the world’s highest vehicle accessible road at Demchok at an altitude of 19 thousand feet.

About 40 days ago we started the tunnel in Hanle at 15 thousand feet. The roads built by BRO are at a higher altitude than the base camp of Mount Everest.

Situated at an altitude of 19 thousand feet, this is the world’s highest road in Demchok.
