Helen Mirren opened up in a recent interview about how “excited” she felt shooting sex scenes with Harrison Ford.
The Captain America: Brave New World star is 81 years old, while Helen is 78 – but according to the actor, the two had electric chemistry when they romanced each other’s characters on the TV drama series 1923.
“I was so excited, I can’t tell you! I had to pretend to be amazing,” Helen told The Wrap at the 2023 Awards Season Screening Series.
Referring to a scene in which fictional characters Jacob and Cara Dutton were together, she enthused: “I should have been in bed with him, you know, but I’m lying there thinking, ‘I’m in bed with him. Harrison Ford.’
Describing him as “extremely generous” and “extremely professional”, she insisted he was “not far [a] totally spoiled movie star”.
“I really love it,” she continued, before adding playfully: “If I wasn’t married…”
Helen has spent more than a quarter of a century as the wife of film director Taylor Hackford – and although he has been married twice before, his third marriage has stood the test of time.
However, Helen and Harrison go back even further, having first starred opposite each other back in 1986 when they were a married couple on The Mosquito Coast together.
“It was so wonderful to come back and it was as if the 30 years hadn’t happened and here we were together again as husband and wife,” Helen gushed at the Deadline Contestants TV Panel.
Meanwhile, in February, during an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Harrison revealed to his host that he doesn’t think his co-star’s sex appeal has faded in the 37 years since their first film was made.
When Stephen held up a photo from the vintage film, showing Helen lying on top of Harrison, he surprised him, before claiming that “she’s still sexy” today.
It’s not just Harrison who is praising Helen’s appeal, as it has recently emerged that young people also admire her.
Rapper 50 Cent said Men’s Health magazine that he pressured her, declaring that she was “forever sexy” in a video for the publication’s website.
“She looks at you and you go, ‘Oh, s***!’ Like, look, I don’t care how old she gets. I don’t give a *** what anybody says, she’s sexy,” he insisted.
He also said he found her confidence charming, adding: “She’s what she’s been all these years. She’ll always be sexy.”
However, he said he wouldn’t date her if she divorced her husband, explaining: “As long as he’s alive, I wouldn’t say yes.”
“It’s not right, because you know what? I don’t want anyone waiting for me to be knocked out in an accident or something.”
Helen was to receive the American Cinematheque 2023 award today, but strikes have postponed it, and the new date of the ceremony is to be announced soon.
