CNBC on Friday reported that the number of full-time employees of Twitter has decreased to about 1,300 active and working employees, including less than 550 full-time engineers according to the title.

About 75 of the company’s 1,300 employees are on leave including about 40 engineers, CNBC said, citing internal records.

“The note is incorrect. There are approximately 2300 active and working employees on Twitter,” billionaire Musk tweeted in response to a tweet that CNBC cited.

“There are still hundreds of employees working on trust and security, along with several thousand contractors,” Musk added.

Musk took over Twitter in October and moved quickly through a number of product and organizational changes. The company released the Blue check mark verified by Twitter as a paid service and also laid off about 50% of the staff.
