The special team of Delhi Police took the journalist with them after the raid on Tuesday morning. Abhisar Sharma tweeted on social media X on Tuesday morning and said that Delhi Police reached my house. Took away my laptop and phone. Senior journalist Abhisar Sharma, living in Mahagun Maywood Housing Society, Greater Noida West, was being called by a special team of Delhi Police for questioning in a case. He was not participating in the investigation. In this sequence, on Tuesday morning, a special team of Delhi Police reached the house of so-called journalist Abhisar Sharma. A special team of Delhi Police raided his house and took him into custody.
During the raid at Abhisar Sharma’s house, the team seized his laptop and phone. For a long time the team kept interrogating him in his house itself. After this she took them with herself. Taking a major action, the special team of Delhi Police has raided the houses of many journalists and writers in UP including Delhi. Everyone’s mobile phones and laptops have been seized during the raid. According to the big news that has come out, a special team has raided the houses of many journalists including so-called journalist Abhisar Sharma and their electronic goods have been confiscated. Among these, the houses of Sanjay Rajora, Bhasha Singh, Urmilesh Tiwari, Prabir Purkayastha and Sohail Hashmi have been raided.
In fact, on Tuesday morning, the Special Cell of Delhi Police raided the premises associated with news portal Newsclick and its journalists. It is noteworthy that in the past too, the premises of the company had been raided by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as part of the investigation into the sources of funding of the news portal. Actually, allegations are being made that the news portal is getting huge amount of funding from China for its work. Apart from the capital Delhi, the special team of Delhi is also searching at more than 30 places in Greater Noida and Ghaziabad of UP. Delhi Police has registered a case under UAPA.
According to sources, the ongoing Delhi Police raid on various premises linked to Newsclick is based on the case registered on August 17 under UAPA and other sections of the IPC. A case has been registered under UAPA, IPC section 153A (promoting enmity between two groups), section 120B (criminal conspiracy). The Economic Offenses Wing of Delhi Police had registered a case in the year 2021 regarding illegal funding received by Newsclick. Newsclick had received this dubious funding through Chinese companies. After this, ED registered a case and started investigating the case.
However, the promoters of Newsclick were given protection from arrest by the High Court at that time. On the raids on various premises associated with Newsclick, Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said that it seems that dictatorship has arrived. Not only the freedom of expression and media but also economically and socially are being curbed. If (any journalist) comes out and speaks freely, he will be arrested. We will do it in such a way that we will not get bail soon. Before the upcoming elections, BJP is giving a message to all the journalists. We have fought against terrorism and will continue to fight, but if journalists are falsely implicated under the guise of it, we stand with them.
CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said on the action that Delhi Police has reached our house because our party colleagues live with us. Whose son works in Newsclick. There is no information about the reason behind conducting this raid. You are not even telling why you are doing all this? We want them to give clarification. This is an attack on media and freedom of expression. Due to these reasons, the world’s press index (India’s) is continuously declining. From the other side there is propaganda that we are the mother of democracy.
