Closing Bell: Sensex fell 242 points, Nifty closed below 20,150, auto, PSU bank shares gained.

Closing Bell: Sensex and Nifty closed with decline

Fin Nifty was seen trading in the market range on expiry. Sensex and Nifty closed with a decline. There was selling in midcap and smallcap stocks while a decline was seen in realty, metal, IT stocks. There was pressure in pharma banking shares. PSU banking index closed at record high. There was buying in PSE, Auto, Energy shares.

At the end of trading, the Sensex closed at 67,596.84 with a fall of 241.79 points or 0.36 percent. Whereas Nifty closed at the level of 20,133.30 with a decline of 59.05 points or 0.29 percent.

Hindalco Industries, Jio Financial, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel and Adani Ports were the top losers of Nifty. Whereas Titan Company, M&M, BPCL, HDFC Life and Power Grid Corporation were the top gainers of Nifty.

If we look at the sectoral front, the PSU Bank index closed with a gain of 3.5 percent. Power index closed with a gain of 1 per cent, Auto index 1 per cent and FMCG index 0.5 per cent. At the same time, a decline of 1 percent was seen in the realty index. While Bank, IT, Pharma and Metal indices closed with a decline of 0.5 percent.

BSE’s Midcap index closed with a fall of 0.3 percent and Smallcap index closed with a fall of 0.5 percent.
