During the pre-broadcast Grammys ceremony, Beyonce won the Best Electronic Dance Recording category for the first time for Break My Soul. She also won for Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Plastic Off the Sofa.”

Beyonce, who now has 30 awards, needs just two more wins to eclipse the record held by the late Hungarian-English conductor Georg Solti, who has 31 Grammys. Solti has held the record since 1997.
It is the first time that Beyonce has been nominated in the dance category. Her seventh studio project is nominated for best electronic dance music album.
Beyoncé entered Sunday’s awards show as the top nominee for Album, Song and Record of the Year. If she wins in any of those major categories, it will be her first award since she won Song of the Year for “Single Ladies” in 2010.

Muni Long—nominated for Best New Artist—beat Beyonce in the Best R&B Performance category for her song “Hrs. and hours.”
Beyoncé’s other nominations include Best R&B Song for “Cuff It” and Song Written for Visual Media for “Be Alive,” the Oscar-nominated song from the King Richard soundtrack.
That’s one of the main stories going into Sunday’s ceremony, with many of the biggest names in music in the running for the evening’s top honors – Harry Styles, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, ABBA and Lizzo are all among those Nominees for Album of the Year. Adele joins them in the Record of the Year competition.
Viola Davis is now an EGOT — a term for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony winners — after winning for Best Audio Book, Best Narrative and Best Recorded Story. The actress made an emotional speech and said emphatically “I’m just EGOT” after she went on stage to accept her award.

“Oh my god,” she said. “I wrote this book to honor 6-year-old Viola, to honor her, her life, her joy, her trauma, everything,” Davis said. “It was just such a journey.”
Street wear, t-shirts and denim mixed with bold couture, wild patterns and plenty of leather on the Grammys carpet. Lizzo wowed in a bright orange Dolce & Gabbana dress adorned with flowers and a huge hood, while Taylor Swift wore a long, two-piece, sparkling skirt with a high neck and long midnight blue sleeves.
Brandi Carlile made a rare appearance during the pre-show for a headliner. The singer came out after her song “Broke Horses” won Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song, Song Award and Best Americana Album.

“It’s rock ‘n’ roll, man,” Carlile said smiling, running on stage with some of her bandmates. “I can’t tell you how much this means to us. We were born and raised in Seattle. When I met these people 22 years ago we decided to go into a band.”
Carlile co-wrote Broken Horses with twin brothers Phil and Tim Hanseroth.
“Oh god, this is amazing,” she said. “Oh, I’ll never be the same again.”
Kendrick Lamar extended his record in the Best Rap Performance category with his sixth career trophy for The Heart Part 5, which also recognized his songwriting as the winner of Best Rap Song.
The Tennessee State University Marching Band beat out Willie Nelson to win Best Roots Gospel Album for The Urban Hymnal. The band’s nomination was the first time a college marching band had been nominated in this category.

Sir the Baptist accepted the award for the band, emphasizing in his acceptance speech how underfunded historically black colleges and universities like Tennessee State are and saying he had to “invest my last penny to get us across the border.” “.
Trevor Noah will host the show live from the Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles, beginning at 8:00 pm Eastern time on CBS and Paramount+. The show includes performances by Bad Bunny, Mary J. Adele’s win for Song of the Year for her track “Easy on Me” makes her the most decorated artist in the category with three wins, the others coming for her mega hits “Hello” and “Rolling in the Deep “.

This year’s Grammys also introduced several new categories, including one for video game music composition, which went to the soundtrack of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla.
Ozzy Osbourne won two Grammys, cementing the metal god’s late career.
“Degradation Rules” by Ozzy Osbourne in which Tony Iommi won Best Metal Performance and his album “Patient Number 9” won Best Rock Album.
Earlier this year, Osbourne announced the cancellation of his 2023 UK and continental European tour dates and that his health is unlikely to allow him to tour again.
This year’s show marks a return to Los Angeles after the pandemic initially delayed and forced the Grammys to move to Las Vegas last year. Noah also hosted the ceremony where Jon Batiste took home the album of the year.
