England vs Afghanistan Full Match Highlights: Thanks to the magical spin of Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rehman and Mohammad Nabi, Afghanistan caused the first upset of the 2023 ODI World Cup by defeating England by 69 runs. This is Afghanistan’s first win against England in any format.
After playing first, Afghanistan had scored 285 runs thanks to the stormy innings of 80 runs by Rahmanullah Gurbaz. In response, the England team collapsed for only 215 runs in 40.3 overs. Harry Brook played an inning of 66 runs in 61 balls for England, but he could not lead his team to victory. Whereas for Afghanistan, Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman took three wickets each. Whereas Mohammad Nabi got two successes.
England had a bad start to chase the target of 286 runs given by Afghanistan. Jonny Bairstow was out in the second over after scoring only one run. Bairstow was sent to the pavilion by Fazalhaq Farooqui. After this, Joe Root also could not stay at the crease for long. Root was out after scoring 11 runs in 17 balls with the help of two fours. He was bowled by Mujeeb ur Rahman.
After this, all eyes were on David Malan, but Malan could not face the Afghan spinners for long. He was out after scoring 32 runs in 39 balls with the help of four fours. After this England lost wickets at regular intervals.

After this Harry Brook also returned to the pavilion. Brook scored 66 runs in 61 balls. During this, 7 fours and 1 six came from his bat. In the end, Adil Rashid scored 22 runs in 13 balls, Mark Wood scored 18 runs in 22 balls and Reece Topley scored 15 runs in seven balls to reduce the margin of defeat.
For Afghanistan, Rashid Khan took three wickets for 37 runs and Mujeeb Ur Rehman took three wickets for 51 runs. Whereas Mohammad Nabi took two wickets for just 16 runs. Apart from this, Fazalhaq Farooqui and Naveen Ul Haq got one success each.
Earlier, Rahmanullah Gurbaz did wonders for Afghanistan in batting. Gurbaz scored 80 runs in just 57 balls with the help of 8 fours and 4 sixes. Whereas Ikram Ali Khil played an inning of 58 runs. In the end Mujeeb ur Rahman scored an important 28 runs in 16 balls.
