Vimal Kumar, New Delhi: Team India is ready for World Cup 2023. The BCCI has announced the 15-member squad for the tournament to be held from October 5 to November 19. Rohit Sharma has got the Indian team bow. He will be seen captaining the team for the first time in the ODI World Cup. Team India has been waiting for the World Cup trophy since 2011. In such a situation, apart from Rohit, Virat Kohli will also want to perform well here. This is believed to be the last ODI World Cup for both the senior players. In an exclusive conversation with News18 Hindi ahead of the World Cup, Rohit spoke about his relationship with Virat Kohli and coach Rahul Dravid. It is to be noted that after winning the Asia Cup, the Indian team has also made a great start in the series against Australia.
Question: How is your relationship with coach Rahul Dravid? What is the relationship with them?
Answer: As far as Rahulbhai is concerned. He is a good person. This is the most important thing for any field. I made my debut under his captaincy. However, he could not play much after that. We were also in NCA together. I have come to know him very closely in the last 2 years. They don’t want to maintain communication gap. They treat everyone equally. We have a very open relationship. We talk about the players, we also discuss planning and how to play. Every time we get to learn something from them.
Question: What do Virat Kohli and Rohit discuss when they talk about batting?
Answer: Let’s talk about who throws the ball on the field. Well, whenever we meet in a series, we talk about which new player is coming, which bowler is coming, what to do, what not to do. There is more focus on these things.
Question: How do you view your journey? Debuted in 2007, but had an ups and downs career. Are you aiming to play 100 Tests?
Answer: I am not that much of a forward thinker. Right now my focus is on short-term issues. This is how I live my life. First, focus on whatever is in front of you. Focus on what you are doing now and what will happen next. So it is necessary to focus on what I am doing now.
Question: Can you overtake Chris Gayle for most sixes in international cricket? What do you think about such records?
Answer: I didn’t think I could do that. If that happens, it will be special for me. When I started cricket we were taught that timing is very important. When we used to play shots in the air it was said that you cannot play shots from above. When we practiced in school, there was no talk of playing overhead shots, because if you hit overhead, someone would hit the ball. Even the basics of cricket say that timing is important.
