– Speaking on the Women’s Reservation Bill, Sonia recalled the contributions of Sarojini Naidu, Sucheta Kripalani, Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit, Aruna Asfali
New Delhi: Former Congress president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, while speaking about the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha today, said that the implementation of the Bill should be started at the earliest, although she requested to keep OBC quota among the reserved seats. Along with this, once again they continued to support that bill and said that the dream of my spouse Rajiv Gandhi will be fulfilled if this bill becomes a law.
They strongly requested for reservation of reserved seats for OBC category in reserved seats, saying that ‘Congress must support the Nari Shakti Vandan Act’. We will be very happy if this bill is passed. But I ask, women have been waiting quietly for this bill for the last 13 years and still they are being asked to wait a little longer, how many years will they wait? 2, 3, 6, 8? how many years
Starting the debate on the Women’s Reservation Bill, Sonia Gandhi asked, Sonia Gandhi made this criticism in the context that it was said by the government that this bill will come into effect after delineation of constituencies. (Which is unlikely to happen before 2026) In fact, every ten years after the census, constituencies are redrawn.
The problem is that the deadline for the census, which should be done every ten years, was 2021, but the census has not been done yet.
Along with this, Sonia Gandhi said, ‘Congress wants this bill to be implemented immediately, but along with it, reservation should also be given to women of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes, along with this, caste-population census must also be done.’ Any delay in the implementation of this bill will be treated as an injustice to women. So this bill must be implemented at the earliest.
In her first speech in the new Parliament House, she said, “Women in India have never seen their benefits. They flow like a river for the benefit of everyone. It is impossible to understand the patience of women. It is they who have made us intelligent and hardworking.
Along with this, Mrs. Gandhi recalled India’s ideal women like Sarojini Naidu, Sucheta Kripalani, Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit and Aruna Asfali and said that they built a new India shoulder to shoulder with men in the freedom struggle and Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel and Maulana Azad. Dreams came true.
