Russia-Ukraine war case now in international court. Hearings at the International Court of Justice on the Russia-Ukraine war
Ukraine took the case to the ICJ on February 24 last year, a few days after the Russian attack.
Washington, 18 The war between Russia and Ukraine, who are fighting each other on the battlefield, has now reached the International Court of Justice.
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) will now hear the matter. The hearing in this matter will start today. Ukraine raised this matter before the ICJ only a few days after the Russian attack on February 24 last year.
Ukraine says Russia made a mockery of international law by justifying the attack. Russia has countered Ukraine’s accusation by claiming that it decided to attack Ukraine to prevent genocide. Now Russia will present its claim to the ICJ.
On February 24 last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a war against Ukraine in the name of a special military operation. Since then, war has been going on between the two countries. Russia claimed that genocide is happening in Ukraine and it is our responsibility to save those people. Russia wants the international court to dismiss the case. The matter will be heard till December 27. Ukraine got a major reprieve from the ICJ in March this year as the initial order ordered Russia to stop military operations in Ukraine. However, Russia also says that it is not within the jurisdiction of the ICJ to issue any order in this matter. While Ukraine says that the IC can intervene in this matter. This logic of Ukraine was supported by 32 countries.
