Order to investigate purchase of onion by NAFED and NCCF

Updated: Sep 23rd, 2023

Mumbai: National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) and National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India Ltd. The Nashik District Officer has ordered the Tehsildar to investigate the purchase of onion by (NCCF) and submit the report. The central government has instructed NAFED and NCCF to prevent onion prices from falling.

It is necessary to buy from the farmers at the price of Rs. 2400 per quintal. But by buying at a lower price, the central agencies are dumping the goods in the market at a lower price, due to which the traders are not participating in the auction for the last three days, saying that they are losing themselves.

There is a buzz in the market that NCCF has not provided any information about where its purchase centers are. Traders want NAFED and NCCF to sell onion at retail instead of APMC. Apart from this, the traders are also demanding to drop the 40 percent export duty implemented last month.

Sources said that the tehsildar has been instructed to collect the complete details of purchase of onion by NAFED and NCCF such as price paid, from whom purchased, how much purchased etc.
