A top court in Pakistan on Monday ordered authorities to shift former Prime Minister Imran Khan from Punjab province’s Attock jail to the high-security Adiala jail in the garrison city of Rawalpindi. In August, the Tehreek-e-Islam party filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court to keep the former prime minister in the high-security Adiala jail.
The Chief Justice of the High Court has directed to shift Imran Khan from Attock Jail to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. 70-year-old Imran Khan has been lodged in Attock jail since August 5 as punishment in the Toshakha corruption case. Although his sentence was suspended by the Islamabad High Court, he is lodged in Attock Jail in connection with the leak of secret documents.
On 13 September, a special court under the Official Secrets Act extended Imran Khan’s remand till 26 September in the case of leaking secret documents. The Islamabad court sentenced the former PM to three years in jail and ordered the authorities to keep him in Adiala jail.
