Storm Agnes
Dublin News: Storm Agnes wreaked havoc in Ireland today with torrential rain and high winds. According to weather service forecasts, the south will experience the worst of the first major storm this season, with Storm Agnes at its peak in the afternoon. As the Atlantic storm passed over Ireland during the day and heavy rains increased the risks.
Chance of flooding in coastal areas
Parts of Cork, Kerry and Waterford are expected to receive around 40mm of rain in less than 24 hours. Flooding is especially likely in coastal areas. An Orange Alert has been issued for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry, Tipperary and Waterford from 9am to 7pm.

Winds gusted to over 100kmh
The strongest gusts ever recorded were 110kmh at Sherkin Island in West Cork and winds of over 100kmh around Cork city. Power supplies are worst affected in Kentark, Ballincollig/Owen, Ballyvarney, Macroom, Blarney and Dunmanway-Clonakilty.

Rescue teams are on standby for Storm Agnes, ESB Networks said, adding that reconnection will only begin when it is safe to begin repair work. They apologized to all those affected for the inconvenience. Cork Airport issued an appeal to any passengers intending to travel to the airport to exercise caution. A number of flights have been delayed at Cork Airport due to the storm.

People were requested to stay indoors
Travelers have been warned that there could be delays at ports and airports due to the impact of Hurricane Agnes. Dublin Fire Brigade have been forced to seal off Brookville Park to clear the debris. People have been urged to stay indoors due to the dangers.
