Dubai: In the first eight months of 2023, more than 35000 drivers have been caught using mobile phones in vehicles. Due to this non-fatal negligence, 99 accidents have occurred during this period resulting in six fatalities.

Major-General Saif Muhair Al Mazroi, director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, warned that “using a phone while driving not only distracts the driver but also significantly increases the likelihood of accidents.” A momentary lapse in concentration while checking social media or texting can have disastrous consequences.”

Dubai Police has warned that drivers caught using phones on the road will be fined Dh800 and given four black points. This penalty applies even if a person is making a call, sending a text message or browsing social media while driving.
