  • Millions of cusecs of water released from the dam created a flood situation

Everyone has breathed a sigh of relief as the water started receding after the dire flood situation in the villages in the parish including Yatradham Chandod. Millions of cusecs of water released from the dam resulted in a flood situation.

Due to the heavy rains in Madhya Pradesh and water from Indira Sagar Dam pouring into Sardar Lake, the dam reached its maximum level on Saturday and on Saturday 19 lakh cusecs of water was gradually released from the dam into the Narmada River. As a result, water started entering the coastal villages like Chandod, Karnali, Nanderia, Bhimpura in Dabhoi from late on Saturday night. By Sunday morning, flood waters had receded in almost all the residential and market areas of Chandod. All were put in a bad condition along with the loss of goods and household goods.

However, after 24 hours of flooding, the flood waters started receding late on Sunday night. By Monday evening, 5 steps of the famous Malhar Rao Ghat had come out of the water. As the water recedes, the residents along with the shopkeepers are busy cleaning the flooded soil and garbage. The system has also been activated before an epidemic situation occurs.
