Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong attended the completion ceremony of the Vietnam Research and Development (R&D) Center in line with the 30th anniversary of Korea-Vietnam diplomatic ties.
Samsung Electronics announced on the 23rd that Chairman Lee attended the completion ceremony of the Samsung Vietnam R&D Center located in Hanoi. Samsung Electronics has invested 220 million dollars (about 260 billion won based on the exchange rate at the time) since March 2020 to build the R&D center with the goal of completion by the end of this year a year.
At the completion ceremony, Chairman Lee said, “The Samsung R&D Center in Vietnam will contribute not only to strengthening Vietnam’s industrial competitiveness, but also to promoting friendly cooperation between the -Korea and Vietnam.” Before and after the completion ceremony, Chairman Lee also visited the Samsung plant near Hanoi to inspect the smartphone and show production plants and encourage employees.
The Vietnam R&D center has 16 floors above ground and 3 floors underground, and has a total floor area of 79,511 square meters (about 24,052 pyeong) on a site of 11,603 square meters (about 3510 pyeong). It is the first large-scale comprehensive research institute established by a global company in Vietnam.
In addition to the advanced research facilities, the Vietnam R&D Center is equipped with various welfare facilities for executives and employees, such as a fitness center, cafeteria, rooftop garden, and club space. In the future, around 2,200 researchers will reside and carry out research in the fields of smart devices, networks and software.
