Nana Patekar breaks silence on viral slap video: ‘Scene was part of film, thought he was from crew’

Actor Nana Patekar has issued a clarification on the viral video of him smacking a selfie-seeking fan while he was shooting a film. Nana Patekar said that the sequence was part of the film he was shooting for but she did not know that the boy he hit was not part of the crew.

In a video on social media, Nana Patekar apologized for what he said was a “misunderstanding”, claiming that he never denied selfies to his fans.” This happened by mistake. If there is some misunderstanding, please forgive me. I will never do anything like this.”

The video circulating on the internet is from Varanasi, where the 72-year-old actor is shooting for his next film “Turas” with filmmaker Anil Sharma. In the 10-second clip, Nana Patekar is seen getting ready to shoot a scene when a fan approaches him and tries to click a selfie. Nana Patekar hit the visibly upset boy on the back of the head and a guard, who was standing next to the actor, grabbed the young miscreant by the neck and took him away.

The viral video of Nana Patekar slapping a boy who came to take a selfie with the actor, inspired the netizens.

Responding to criticism of the viral video, Nana Patekar said, “A video is going viral where I hit a boy. Although this sequence is part of our film, we had one rehearsal…we had a second rehearsal scheduled. The director told me to start. We were about to start when the boy in the video came in.”

“I didn’t know who he was, I thought he was one of our staff so I slapped him like he was at the platform and told him to leave. Later, I came to know that he was not part of the crew. So, I was going to call him back but he ran away. Maybe his friend shot the video,” he said.

Filmmaker Anil Sharma has come out in support of Nana Patekar, saying that he was part of a scene from his upcoming film “Journey”.

” He [Nana Patekar] no one is slapped, it is shot out of our film. People have a problem with making a fuss over nothing… We are currently shooting in Benaras for the film, ‘Journey’,” said Anil Sharma.
