However, fund managers believe that large caps and hybrid schemes can be looked at.

On how to generate alpha return from equity mutual fund investments, S Naren, ED & CIO at ICICI Prudential AMC said, “Markets have been volatile of late due to worsening geopolitical tensions, rising US yields, persistent inflation , currency devaluation. Given this scenario, this Diwali, investors can consider investing in hybrid and large cap schemes. Within a hybrid it is possible to consider categories such as multi-asset, balanced advantage, equity saving or aggressive hybrid.”

The Prudential AMC ICICI expert also said that in terms of valuation, large caps are compared to mid and small caps. From a portfolio diversification perspective, an allocation to gold can act as a hedge against inflation and help mitigate the risks associated with traditional asset classes.

Advising mutual fund investors to look at large-cap equity mutual funds on Diwali 2023, Mohit Gang, CEO & Co-Founder of MoneyFront – a subsidiary of Niyogin Fintech, said, “We are firmly in the Large Caps camp this Diwali. Almost 60% of the companies in the Nifty Top 100 have delivered low single-digit returns in the past year. It’s time for them to come up decent. There is also a restriction of medium and small limits on valuations in a few pockets.”

When asked about their favorite picks in mutual fund schemes, Mohit Gang said, “Our favorite pick for this Diwali is Nifty 50 Index fund. Investors can either Nifty 50 Bandhan Index or Nifty 50 Pru Index Fund Choose ICICI in the large cap space.”
